Fenwick Elliott named top legal firm at FIDIC contracts awards

Largest UK construction and energy law firm, Fenwick Elliott, is named Legal Firm of the Year at recent FIDIC Contract Users’ Awards.

Leading UK law firm Fenwick Elliott has won the Legal Firm of the Year award at the 2022 FIDIC Contract Users’ Awards. The firm, which works closely with clients to offer a full range of legal services for construction, engineering and energy projects worldwide, received the accolade at an awards ceremony in London on 29 November 2022.

The Legal Firm of the Year category in the awards run by the International Federation of Consulting Engineers is given to reward, recognise and celebrate best practice by a legal firm during the year based on outstanding contribution to the wider use of FIDIC contracts.

Fenwick Elliott are consistently singled out as a ‘Top Tier Firm’ in the Chambers & Partners international law firm rankings for their “strong knowledge of FIDIC contracts”. The firm, which has given considerable support to FIDIC and to the promotion of the values FIDIC stand by for over 20 years, has in the past 12 months been particularly active in its support for the organisation.

In the last year alone, Fenwick Elliott partner Nicholas Gould, as Professor at the King’s College London Centre of Construction Law, organised in cooperation with FIDIC, an intensive one-week course covering the FIDIC standard form contracts in practice, partner Dr Stacy Sinclair became chair of FIDIC’s new digital transformation committee and partner Jeremy Glover has advised the FIDIC contracts committee on the amendments being made for the updated second edition of the 2017 contract suite.

In addition, Nicholas Gould and Jeremy Glover have been instrumental in FIDIC Credentialing/Dispute Resolution Board Foundation collaboration, which established a qualification route for potential members of the FIDIC President’s List of DAB/DAAB adjudicators and have also provided training on the 2017 FIDIC contract for the existing FIDIC President’s List.

The judges said that from a user perspective, Fenwick Elliott were very active in educating the whole industry on legal issues. “Going above and beyond the norm, the firm has strength in many areas, especially in education and training on FIDIC contracts. This is a firm that is proactive across different regions of the world, with extensive and thorough experience in all continents and one which works with clients to avoid disputes,” the judges said.

The judges also awarded a highly commended in the Legal Firm of the Year category to Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner. The judges praised the firm for being a strong advocate for the use of FIDIC contracts and their promotion of training for their employees on the FIDIC suite.
