One of Ireland’s leading multidisciplinary engineering and operating firms formally becomes part of Egis.

From 10 July 2024, JB Barry will adopt the Egis name in the final step of the integration of the two firms. Under a united brand, the company now offers an end-to-end engineering and operations service in Ireland, combining the local expertise and experience or JB Barry and its subsidiary Barry Transportation, with the global reach and strength of Egis.

Egis says the move will better place the company to deliver major infrastructure projects for its clients and as part of Project Ireland 2040, it also makes the firm the largest multidisciplinary consultancy, engineering and operations firm in the country.

Established in 1959, JB Barry and Partners has a track record spanning decades of involvement in some of Ireland’s major engineering projects including the upgrade of Ringsend Wastewater Treatment Plant in Dublin, the N17/N18 Gort to Tuam PPP motorway scheme in Galway as well as international projects including water projects in Croatia, UK and Lesotho. The Barry team has grown over the decades since its foundation, and includes 180 engineers, technicians and project managers.

Egis in Ireland now operates across 16 offices and sites, with over 600 direct and indirect employees. Egis activity in Ireland extends back to 1994 and includes the operation and maintenance of 470km of Ireland’s motorways, the Dublin Tunnel, Jack Lynch Tunnel and Limerick Tunnel, as well the national motorway traffic control centre and Ireland’s mobile road safety camera network.

Commenting on the integration of the firms, Steve Preece, CEO of Egis in Ireland, said: “There are many synergies between Egis and JB Barry & Partners and a history of success and mutual respect in our markets. Since the acquisition, we have continued to grow our revenues, staff and services to our clients and looking ahead, we see a bright future combining the expertise and experience of Barry’s team with the vision and strength of our global organisation.”

Liam Prendiville, managing director of JB Barry & Partners, said: “With Egis we have found a company that shares our values, dedication to excellence in standards and delivering high-quality projects. Under one brand we are better equipped to respond to larger domestic and international tenders, offering our clients new added value services, particularly in digital transformation, asset management, smart cities and sustainability. We’re now the largest multidisciplinary consultant, engineering and operations firm in the country and we can use that scale to make a significant impact through our projects.”

Steve Preece, CEO of Egis in Ireland, said: “Egis has always operated as a global, but local company. When integrating a new company into the group, we know success lies in valuing individual strengths and never driving a single viewpoint or ideology. The integration of Barry’s with Egis is ultimately about bringing together people, with complementary specialisms, and diverse points of view. Diversity breeds innovation, and creativity – both core Egis values that are essential to solving the scale of challenges facing engineers and clients today.
