The 450MW Souapiti Hydropower Plant is capable of multi-year regulation and storage with storage capacity of 7.2 billion m3 and annual power output of 2,016 GWh.
This plant is West Africa’s largest roller-compacted concrete (RCC) gravity dam with a maximum dam height of 120m. It doubled hydroelectric production capacity in Guinea after its all units were put into operation in June 2021, helping to alleviate power shortages that held back life and prosperity in the region.
Along with supporting development in Guinea, the project will support transmission of clean energy to other West African nations –Â Sierra Leone, Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali – via power grids now under construction.
The project reduces carbon emissions by around 1.49 million tons/year and will provide sustainable clean energy for over a century, benefiting more than four million people and providing over 10,000 jobs.
