Located along Peusangan River in Aceh province, two hydroelectric power stations form a cascade system using routed overflows from Lake Tawar.
The new plant improves power balance and stability in Aceh and North Sumatra by increasing power supply capacity along with related transmission and distribution lines. This in turn contributes to the economic development of Northern Sumatra.
Since earthquake and tsunami damage in the Aceh province in 2002, the development level of the region has fallen behind the rest of Indonesia. Aceh province remains under reconstruction and development of infrastructure, including electricity, is still required to boost the region’s economic recovery.
Numerous social programmes have been carried out throughout the project and continue to running through its operation. These include support for local residents with crop planting and its local coffee enterprises, as well as work on reforestation.
