A new capital airport on 2,400ha of land, a single runway of 3,600m x 45m) and a new terminal building of 35,300 sqm.
With a capacity of two million annual passengers, the new airport is 30km south-west of Ulaanbaatar city. Additional buildings include an aircraft hangar, which was added to the original project to further improve capacity.
Serving as the main international gateway for the country the airport was developed as the first such private enterprise bringing together a joint partnership of Japanese companies and the Government of Mongolia.
The success of this approach saw it recognised by receiving the Japan Society of Civil Engineering and Japan Construction International award from the Japan Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in 2022.
