Perth-based environmental consultancy Bioscope Environmental joins forces with US engineering and construction company CDM Smith.

Perth-based environmental consultancy Bioscope Environmental has been bought by US-based engineering and construction company CDM Smith, to help the US firm offer post-closure support to the mining sector.

Bioscope Environmental is a leader in mine life management, providing project lifecycle services from early approvals through to post closure relinquishment and environmental monitoring. “As our portfolio of mining work has expanded, we felt it was important to find a firm that had a similar culture of not just executing projects, but also relentlessly serving clients and providing market leading solutions,” said Timothy B. Wall, chairman and CEO of CDM Smith.

“The addition of Bioscope Environmental to the CDM Smith team gives additional depth to our mining-sector technical expertise and capabilities, allowing us to provide value added services for new and existing resource-sector clients across the globe, as well as to accelerate our already strong growth in Australia, particularly Western Australia. We are excited about the tremendous possibilities we will explore together to deliver differentiating value to our clients,” Wall said.

Bioscope Environmental director and founder Sonia Finucane commented: “Earlier this year, Bioscope Environmental celebrated its tenth anniversary in providing environmental and social services to the mining, industrial and infrastructure sectors. We are excited to now be joining forces with CDM Smith, a company well known for its strong client focus, multidisciplinary solutions and culture of quality.

“We look forward to delivering the value of our combined teams, and to providing a stronger and more diversified portfolio of services in environment, water, contaminated sites and data analytics. With our highly skilled teams, and our sound local, national and international experience, we will continue to provide the superior service, support and synergy that our clients have come to expect.”

CDM Smith Australia managing director, Stuart Richardson said: “The investment in minerals exploration has steadily increased, with mining commodities accounting for a large portion of Australia’s export by value. Having successfully partnered with Bioscope Environmental we know the outstanding service and quality expertise they provide clients across a whole-of-project lifecycle service. The addition of their expertise and industry-recognised thought leadership is a benefit to our existing clients and another compelling reason for new clients globally to choose us to help meet their environmental needs.”

Bioscope Environmental has assumed the CDM Smith name and relocated to the current CDM Smith Perth office joining more than 5,000 employees in 125 offices worldwide, including Australian locations in Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Darwin.
