Rebecca Mehrtens appointed as Aurecon’s New Zealand energy and industrial leader.
International design, engineering and advisory company, Aurecon has appointed energy market leader, Rebecca Mehrtens, as its New Zealand energy and industrial leader.
Mehrtens brings significant experience as a leader and advisor to the energy sector across New Zealand which will support Aurecon’s clients to address the many opportunities and challenges facing the energy industry in the coming years.
“Aotearoa, New Zealand is committed to the energy transition with renewable energy and decarbonisation at the centre of this commitment. There will be massive scale and investment over the next ten years, across all parts of the industry from power generation, the transmission network, electrification and energy security through sustaining capital,” said Mehrtens.
Mehrtens is also pleased to see that support for a clean energy transition is supported by the new government in New Zealand and across the business community. “However, as with any massive scale up of infrastructure or change to existing equipment, there will be challenges,” she said. “Our full end-to-end integrated solutions across all parts of the energy transition including sustainability and climate change will be vital in supporting our clients with these challenges,” said Mehrtens.
She takes over the energy and industrial leadership reins from Dan Martin, who has moved into a new position as Aurecon’s New Zealand operations director.
“With strong succession plans in place, we continue to build a thriving business in a very complex world.” said Aurecon’s managing director, Tracey Ryan. “Dan has made a significant contribution in his leadership of the energy and industrial team over the past four years. He hands over to Rebecca a strong performing team, as he now focuses on the critical role of delivering on our New Zealand business priorities,” Ryan said.
Before Aurecon, Mehrtens worked at Transpower and Genesis Energy where she held diverse roles including the Auckland development manager for transmission and group manager energy trading and market operations. Passionate about diversity, equity and inclusion, Mehrtens is also an active ally of Aurecon Pride, He Rautaki Māori (Aurecon’s Māori Strategy) and leads initiatives as part of Aurecon’s Gender Strategic Pillar.
