The travel time from Mong Cai to Ha Long has been reduced to just 1 hour and 30 minutes (down from 3 hours), and from Mong Cai to Hanoi to only 3 hours (previously 5.5 hours). This improvement fosters the growth and development of economic and administrative zones along the expressway.
The project comprises two components:
- Van Don – Tien Yen Expressway: Spanning 16.08 km.
- Tien Yen – Mong Cai Expressway: Extending 63.29 km.
Designed as a four-lane expressway (lane width: 3.75m each), it supports a maximum speed of 120 km/h, meeting technical standards for safe and efficient highway operations. The project harmoniously integrates geometric and design elements to ensure both operational safety and an aesthetically pleasing landscape along the route.
The Van Don - Tien Yen Expressway and Tien Yen - Mong Cai Expressway exemplify exceptional innovation and engineering excellence, delivering a high-speed expressway designed for a maximum speed of 120 km/h. Traversing coastal areas, the expressway features a meticulously planned alignment that integrates horizontal and vertical curve elements to ensure smooth vehicle operation, minimise earthworks, and optimise the construction of auxiliary works such as bridges, culverts, and underpasses. The design adheres to approved project standards and current regulations, promoting safety and operational efficiency.
To address challenges in high-excavation areas, advanced slope stabilisation techniques were employed, including methods to prevent rolling and falling rocks. Solutions such as disarming, armouring, high-strength steel mesh, and grouting ensure the stability of slopes and enhance safety during operation. The project also integrates water drainage systems that support the growth and sustainability of mangrove ecosystems, reflecting a strong commitment to environmental preservation. Weak soil treatment solutions utilise local materials and excavated resources, ensuring a sustainable and resource-efficient approach.
This project achieves a balance between innovative engineering, technical excellence, and ecological responsibility. By overcoming complex challenges and implementing sustainable practices, it sets a benchmark for modern infrastructure projects. Its significant contributions to safety, environmental preservation, and operational efficiency make it a deserving candidate for recognition.
