Hangzhou West Railway Station Transportation Hub integrates five high-speed railway lines: Shanghe-Hangzhou, Hangzhou-Wenzhou, Hangzhou-Linji, Shanghai-Zha-Hangzhou, and Hangzhou-Huang. These connections enable swift access to Hangzhou East Railway Station in just 25 minutes.
The project spans a construction area of approximately 778,000㎡ and incorporates five high-speed rail lines connecting five provinces, along with four subway lines linking three major transportation hubs. As the core driver of the “City on the Track – Hangzhou Cloud City” initiative, it integrates Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) principles, railway systems, and local government traffic data interconnection. The project leverages advanced technologies such as intelligent construction, smart operation and maintenance, as well as green and low-carbon solutions.
Notably, it has achieved one world-first innovation and three pioneering contributions in China. This initiative serves as a flagship demonstration project for the multi-dimensional integration of “station-city-industry” within Chinese transportation hubs.
This project embodies the innovative concept of "building stations and hubs as a means of building cities." Through the comprehensive planning and seamless integration of Hangzhou West Station, Hangzhou Cloud City, the digital economy, and the internet industry, it maximises the value of transportation nodes, enhances urban functionality, and boosts industrial benefits, creating a win-win development model for all stakeholders.
The project introduced cutting-edge digital reforms by integrating national railway data with urban systems. It achieved smart passenger services, seamless transportation integration, intelligent equipment management, and advanced operation and maintenance systems. Furthermore, it implemented intelligent safety command systems with integrated emergency response capabilities. The use of an intelligent construction site system improved construction quality and efficiency, reducing the overall project duration by 20%.
Green and low-carbon design technologies, alongside prefabricated construction methods, were applied to minimise environmental impact, conserve resources, and save energy. This project is recognised as the first Green Star 3-rated transportation building in China’s hot summer and cold winter climate zone.
