Located in the core area of Nanjing city, this bridge has simplified journeys for an average 80,000 vehicles per day, reducing CO2 by around 900t.
The main bridge across the river is a three-tower cable-stayed bridge with main span of 2×600m, which enables for the future shipping development. It is the first steel shell-concrete composite structure cable tower, and has a high-performance steel-coarse aggregate active powder concrete composite beam, which is the first full-steel-concrete composite cable-stayed bridge in the world.
With a total length of 10.33km, this combination of bridges and tunnel, with six lanes in two directions, includes a length of 4.14km Bridge across the Yangtze River, a 1.75km length of Jiajiang Tunnel and 4.4km of other sections.
The project has developed and adopted a lightweight and high-performance structure with intensive efficiency, safety and durability. It is also environmentally-friendly and low carbon, which is suitable for industrial construction. It is the first to create a steel-shell-concrete composite tower with longitudinal and horizontal reinforced concrete tenons (PBL) as shear connectors and excellent synergistic force performance between steel shell and concrete.
Its bearing capacity and ductility are increased by about 50%, which can reduce the amount of cable tower construction, and has the advantages of convenient on-site construction, high appearance quality and excellent durability. The coarse aggregate reactive powder concrete (CA-RPC) was invented specifically for this project and reduces the weight by 35%.
