The project spans a total length of 107.17 km, with a total investment of USD 5.044 billion and a design speed of 120 km/h. Power is supplied via a contact rail system. The project includes 31 stations and traverses railway sections four times, crosses three rivers, and passes through two mountainous regions.
The construction employs a variety of advanced technologies, such as shield tunneling, the mining method, large-span bridges over rivers, green construction practices, and intelligent operation and maintenance systems. Internally, the line connects urban core areas, industrial zones, and towns, while externally integrating with four high-speed railway passenger stations.
This project serves as the backbone transportation line for the central Zhejiang region and plays a crucial role in promoting regional connectivity, social co-construction, and shared prosperity.
The project connects three cities, five urban clusters, and 38 villages, forming a robust economic interaction chain that includes "Jinhua New Energy," "Yiwu Small Commodity," and "Dongyang Wood Carving." It also establishes a vibrant cultural and tourism ecosystem centred on "Jinhua Wuzhou Opera," "Yiwu Business & Trade Spirit," and "Dongyang Hengdian Screen Culture." This initiative serves as a cornerstone for fostering regional resource sharing, industrial co-development, and cultural integration, significantly advancing sustainable economic, social, and cultural growth.
Green construction practices were prioritised, enhancing quality and reducing on-site construction time. For the first time, prefabricated concrete technology was systematically applied in inter-city rail transit stations, resulting in the installation of 9,569 cubic metres of standard components and saving 6,530 tons of steel. This innovation serves as an industry benchmark and underscores the project’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
A focus on energy conservation, efficient land use, and co-construction principles was integral to the project. Various space optimisation strategies were employed, including track-national railway integration, track-highway tunnels, track-highway bridges, and depot-upper property development. These efforts saved 43 hectares of land and reduced investment costs by nearly USD 220 million, demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainability and cost efficiency.
