The H茅roes del Chaco Bridge is an ambitious infrastructure project designed to span the Paraguay River, connecting Asunci贸n, the capital of Paraguay in the Eastern Region, with the district of Nueva Asunci贸n (commonly known as Chaco’i) in the Western Region.
This landmark bridge will serve as the first direct link between these regions, alleviating traffic congestion on the Remanso Bridge, located 8 km upstream.
The total length of the project is 7.4 km, starting at the roundabout of the Costanera de Asunci贸n and extending to the Chaco’i area in the Villa Hayes district, where it connects with Route PY09. The project consists of a 4.8 km road section and a 2.6 km bridge structure, providing a vital transportation link and promoting regional integration and development.
The H茅roes del Chaco Bridge is set to become a transformative force for development, directly benefiting over 580,000 people in Paraguay. It is a cornerstone of the regional logistics and economic corridor, connecting the Falc贸n-Remanso route with access to Asunci贸n, and is strategically positioned to strengthen the nation's infrastructure.
This project addresses pressing transportation challenges by relieving congestion on the Remanso Bridge, a one-lane bridge built in 1978, and contributing to sustainable development in Paraguay's road network. By 2024, it is projected to manage traffic from 6,526 vehicles daily, reducing travel times by 30 minutes and enhancing mobility for commuters and businesses alike.
The bridge also plays a critical role in enhancing regional integration. It will bolster Paraguay's interconnectivity with Argentina and link to South America via Route PY09 and the Bi-Oceanic Corridor, promoting trade and economic growth across borders.
Furthermore, the H茅roes del Chaco Bridge significantly improves the Paraguay River鈥檚 navigation channel. The central span of 300 metres increases navigation safety, minimising collision risks and eliminating critical bottlenecks for river transport, ultimately saving valuable time and resources.
The bridge design incorporates features for all modes of transportation, including dedicated lanes for vehicles, a bicycle path, and a pedestrian walkway. These enhancements ensure road safety and accessibility while fostering multimodal transport options.
