La Mesa Treatment Plant 1 (LMTP1) is operated by Maynilad Water Services Inc. The treatment plant was built in the 1980’s and was designed to treat 1,500,000 litres of water per day and is the biggest water treatment plant in the Philippines
Maynilad, the west zone water provider of water/ wastewater services in Metro Manila, was looking to improve the treatment plant to accommodate increasing ranges of incoming water quality and improved resilience to handle potential earthquake related impacts.
The potential earthquake forces have also become better understood since the plant was built and the client wanted to improve their resilience to these conditions by undertaking structural retrofit works to strengthen the treatment structures and associated facilities. Please explain why you think this project should receive an award? Moreover, LMTP1 now also features a 1- megawatt PV (photovoltaic) solar farm—one of two that Maynilad built within La Mesa Compound. This new solar farm will augment the power requirements of LMTP1 and several other pumping stations. It is expected to reduce the electricity consumption of Maynilad’s La Mesa facilities by around 90,000 (kWh) kilowatt per hour, as well as minimize carbon emissions by 21 tons per month. Notably, as the demand to deliver continuous
safe and potable water to the customers of
Maynilad, rehabilitation were done
simultaneously with the standard operation of the
said treatment plant. The strategy to deliver the
project on time while the water production is
above it target is one of the great challenge the
were surpassed by the Project Team mainly
because of a well established Employer's
Requirement that were translated in the well
defined contract utilizing FIDIC Yellow Book
