Four-lanes expressway spanning 259km with 98.8km of bridges and 38.4km of tunnels, costing $2.9bn
Advanced design concepts and cutting-edge innovative technologies were applied to construction, in a bid to minimise occupation and acquisition of land area and protect the environment. Around 80,000 original plants, 20,000 pieces of rock and 600,000m3
of surface oil was re-used across the project.
The reduction in traffic times and congestion along the route of the expressway is expected to save around 1.36 billion litres of fuel – equivalent to cutting the use of 1.768 million
tons of standard coal during its 20-year operation cycle.
The project established new engineering practices in the treatment of deep and thick lake soft soil foundations. This was applied to a 50km length of the expressway. At the same time, 3D Imaging Tunnel Geological Advance Prediction was performed for treatment of multiple fracture zones and extensive water inflow in Shuanglong Tunnel, with a complete set of 3D imaging tunnel geological advance prediction devices and analysis systems developed for construction safety.
