China Mobile 4G network technology research

The first commercial project adopting large-scale TD-LTE network construction technology, involving 346 cities in 31 provinces and 14,000km railway to provide 4G network services to more than 1bn high-speed rail users.

This project involves construction of 290,000 base stations with a total investment of nearly RMB75bn yuan, or around $10.8bn. It is a large-scale comprehensive project involving all communication majors such as wireless network, core network, transmission network, power supply and civil engineering.

The project obtained three national outstanding engineering consulting awards and three national outstanding communication engineering consulting awards, issued by CNAEC and
China Association of Communications Enterprises separately.

Ten TD-LTE patents were been obtained, four national standards and four industry standards have been established.

China Mobile’s enterprise vision of “mobile changes life” was embedded into the project. The peak rate for wireless data transmission has increased from 10 Mbps in 3G era to 100
Mbps in 4G era as a result. Meanwhile, it is the first time high-speed data communication service has been provided on a high-speed railway running at speeds of up to 250-350 km/h.
