High-level representatives of two leading international engineering federations meet to coordinate work on key issues of mutual interest.
Representatives from the European Federation of Engineering Consultancy Associations (EFCA) and the global engineering federation FIDIC have met in Luxembourg on 14 May 2025 for the inaugural meeting of a new European Global Action Committee (EGAC).
The committee was established in the partnership agreement signed last year by the two organisations’ presidents, Catherine Karakatsanis and InĂ©s Ferguson and its work will ensure effective coordination and communications between EFCA and FIDIC on matters of mutual interest.
The committee is made up of three members from each federation, respectively two board members from each together with the CEO of FIDIC and the director general of EFCA. The committee will meet periodically (at least three times per year and one in person) and will discuss and jointly agree the main topics to be included in a joint action plan. The plan can be updated by the EGAC as and when needed.
With a full agenda at its first meeting in Luxembourg, the committee discussed a number of matters of common interest, including sustainable procurement and collaborative contract models, Ukraine, resilient infrastructure and the use of AI in design by consulting engineers. A preliminary programme of joint activities was agreed and the meeting marked a new era of partnership, that will ultimately benefit the sector at both European and global levels.
Speaking last year when the partnership agreement was signed between FIDIC and EFCA, FIDIC president Catherine Karakatsanis said: “This agreement represents a new era for relations between two organisations which between them represent the vast majority of the global engineering consultancy industry.
“It will ensure that our sector works more effectively on the international stage, especially in the areas of advocacy and representation and as a result of this greater cooperation the respective members of FIDIC and EFCA will benefit greatly along with the industry sector that we both represent.”
