A new chapter begins at FIDIC, as the global engineering federation’s new chief executive officer takes up her position.

International engineering federation FIDIC’s new chief executive officer Susanna Zammataro started her new role on 5 May 2025. Arriving at FIDIC’s offices in Geneva to meet staff members and the president Catherine Karakatsanis, she said that she was excited about getting started and to be working in such an important industry sector.

Zammataro said: “I am delighted to be here at FIDIC and really thrilled to be embarking on a new chapter in my professional journey. The global engineering, construction and infrastructure sector is such an important industry for the future of our world and I can’t wait to get started working with FIDIC members and staff to help shape the future of the global infrastructure sector by driving innovation and promoting collaboration and cooperation. I’m really looking forward to this new challenge, to meeting members and staff and to getting to know all about FIDIC in the weeks and months ahead.”

Commenting on Zammataro’s appointment, FIDIC president and senior vice president of Stantec Catherine Karakatsanis said: “As a global industry federation leader of many years standing, Susanna knows well how membership organisations work and is familiar with the business, political and regulatory environment in which they operate. The FIDIC board and I are delighted that Susanna is the new CEO of our organisation and her skillset and experience in delivering success and influencing decision makers is just what we need at FIDIC. Everyone at FIDIC is looking forward to working with Susanna and giving her our full support as she takes on her new role.”

Zammataro was previously the director general of the International Road Federation (IRF) headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, where she led and managed the organisation. She brings 25 years of unparalleled experience and expertise to her new role as FIDIC CEO and has a distinguished career spanning international organisations, the public and private sectors and has built an extensive and influential network covering continents and sectors, positioning her as a leading figure in global advocacy, strategic planning and organisational transformation.

At the IRF, Zammataro’s leadership has been critical in forging and nurturing high-level partnerships across governments, international financial institutions and the private sector, making her a trusted representative at key multilateral forums, including the UN, EU, multilateral development banks and COP negotiations. Under her leadership, IRF significantly expanded its global footprint, launched groundbreaking initiatives and raised the profile of road and transport infrastructure on a worldwide scale.

“Susanna’s significant experience in the international transportation sector and across the membership organisation arena show that she has the skills and expertise to lead FIDIC into the future,” said FIDIC’s president Catherine Karakatsanis.
