Engineering non-profit organisations joins forces to enhance global health outcomes through international expertise and capacity-building.

Engineers Without Borders USA (EWB-USA), an international non-profit dedicated to building a better world through engineering has announced its merger with Engineering World Health (EWH), an organisation that equips some of the world’s most underserved communities with vital medical equipment while providing hands-on educational experience to biomedical engineering students.

The merger unites EWB-USA’s expertise in creating sustainable infrastructure with EWH’s focus on improving health systems in low-resource settings, amplifying their collective impact on global health and engineering solutions.

EWB-USA is renowned for partnering with communities in-need, both within the United States and internationally, to develop sustainable infrastructure projects that address critical needs in underserved areas. EWH brings to the table a wealth of experience in training biomedical technicians to repair and maintain essential medical equipment in countries like Guatemala and Uganda. These organisations, now operating as one, are ready to become a leading force in fostering positive health outcomes in communities worldwide.

Melissa Montgomery, chief programmes officer at EWB-USA, said: “Many of our projects are focused on improving health outcomes in ways that provide lasting infrastructural solutions for the communities we serve. EWH’s biomedical engineering expertise is the perfect complement to these efforts, enhancing our ability to support health centres from infrastructure to equipment. This is an incredible chance to amplify our impact. By joining together, we align with our mission to bring sustainable engineering solutions to communities in need and enhance our reach.”

The merger is seen a natural fit, as both EWB-USA and EWH are volunteer-powered organisations with a strong chapter network, valuing international cross-cultural exchanges and engaging engineers in meaningful work.

The decision for EWH to join forces with EWB-USA combines team strengths, broadens reach and amplifies impact in improving health outcomes through engineering solutions. Because of this merger, EWB-USA is poised to address health and infrastructure challenges holistically, creating lasting benefits for communities around the globe.
