Andy Sloan has been appointed as executive vice president of COWI’s new UK and international business.

Leading international engineering consultancy COWI has appointed Andy Sloan as executive vice president of its newly formed UK and international division. The move marks a significant step in COWI’s global growth strategy as it reorganises its international operations to form the new division.

Sloan’s appointment underscores the strategic importance of the UK, Ireland, and other international markets – including Germany, Iceland, Oman, Singapore, and South Korea – where the company is poised for continued growth.

Sloan currently serves as managing director of COWI in the UK and Ireland. As executive vice president he will join the company’s executive leadership team and oversee delivery and development across multiple regions with a focus on infrastructure and the green energy transition.

An engineering geologist by training, Sloan studied at the Universities of Edinburgh and Leeds and is a chartered engineer as well as a fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers and a fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. He is also a visiting professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Strathclyde University. His specialist expertise lies in underground space development, having worked on major tunnels and caverns for infrastructure, energy and science projects worldwide.

Recent successes under his leadership include landmark UK infrastructure projects such as the Lower Thames Crossing and Coire Glas, as well as COWI’s presence in Ireland with the recent opening of an office in Dublin and active roles in offshore wind and geothermal developments in South Korea and Iceland.

Commenting on his appointment, Andy Sloan said: “This is an exciting time for COWI. We are seeing strong momentum across our markets, from renewable energy and transportation to advanced infrastructure. I look forward to working with colleagues across geographies to harness our collective strengths and deliver innovative, sustainable solutions.”
