Continued expansion of Citadellsfogen in Malmö will see the design of a new district with better transport connections.

The City of Malmö’s Property and Streets Office has commissioned Rejlers, one of the leading engineering consultancy firms in the Nordic region, to design the reconstruction and expansion of the infrastructure in Västra Hamnen, in order to support the continued expansion of the Citadellsfogen district.

Citadellsfogen is a seven-hectare area that forms the southwest entrance of Västra Hamnen. The area is planned to be developed into a dense and mixed district with housing, offices, preschool, parking garages and downtown activities. To ensure accessibility for all modes of transport, extensive reconstruction of the existing infrastructure is required.

Rejlers has been appointed for the design of the streets and parks of Citadellsfogen. The assignment includes the delivery of complete construction documents and tender documents for the reconstruction and expansion of streets, pedestrian and cycle paths, canal rooms and park areas, all in accordance with the new detailed plan adopted for the area. The work will begin before the summer and is expected to be completed in 2025.

“We are pleased and proud that the City of Malmö’s Property and Street Office has entrusted us with designing the structure of a new district and creating a functional environment for all road users,” said Jimmy Tran, business unit manager at Rejlers’ infrastructure division.
