Key leadership appointment at Aurecon further strengthens the company’s leading position in the Asia Pacific region.

International design, engineering and advisory company Aurecon has announced the appointment of Gabe Carter as its new chief executive for Asia to drive the company’s continued growth across the region.

Carter will join Aurecon’s Group Executive Leadership Team on 1 March 2025 and relocate from Thailand to Singapore, overseeing the performance of approximately 2,100 people across nine locations.

The current Aurecon Asia chief executive, Stephane Asselin, will transition into the role of senior advisor at Aurecon. In this role, he will work closely with Aurecon’s chief client and growth officer, Andrew Maher and his team, focusing on client management and strategic market development across Asia Pacific.

Aurecon’s CEO William Cox acknowledged Asselin’s contributions: “Under Stephane’s leadership over the last six years, Aurecon Asia has seen transformative growth, gaining market share, diversifying services, expanding geographically and growing our workforce from 700 to 2,100 people, including a global design centre in Vietnam and a shared services centre in Manila. This success includes record backlogs and a nearly three-fold increase in sales, revenue and profitability. We cannot thank Stephane enough for all his efforts and for this incredible achievement.”

Gabe Carter joined Aurecon in 2003 after graduating from the University of New South Wales in Australia and since then has played a pivotal role in delivering several major projects across Asia Pacific. With over a decade of experience in Asia, his comprehensive understanding of the region’s unique market dynamics and invaluable local knowledge has helped him build many enduring client relationships. In 2021, Carter was promoted to Aurecon’s managing director for Vietnam and Thailand, leading a team of 700 people.

Aurecon CEO William Cox highlighted how Carter’s appointment aligns with the company’s vision of building a connected and networked Aurecon and further strengthens its leading position in the Asia Pacific region.

“Having spent 22 years at Aurecon, Gabe’s global perspective and exceptional collaboration skills enables him to deliver outstanding outcomes for our clients, people and communities. In Asia, the ability to collaborate nimbly and swiftly offers a significant advantage, bringing immense value to our clients. I am excited to welcome Gabe to this role and look forward to his leadership in driving our Asia business to new heights,” said Cox.

Stephane Asselin, the current Aurecon Asia chief executive commented: “It has been a privilege leading Aurecon in Asia over the last six years and witnessing the team bring our business to new levels. I am grateful for your trust, support and invaluable contribution to growing Aurecon in Asia’s fast-paced competitive market. Gabe has been a highly valued member of the leadership team. He is a true Aurecon success story, exemplifying the broad opportunities available to all Aurecon people. I am confident that under Gabe’s leadership, we will continue this growth momentum and achieve even greater success.”

Gabe Carter said: “This is an outstanding opportunity to lead a talented team in one of the world’s most dynamic regions. In today’s competitive market, our key differentiator is our connected organisation across Asia. This network enables us to deliver exceptional solutions, giving our clients confidence in the success of their project. I look forward to continuing this momentum and driving success with the team.

“Technology and connectivity will remain central to our vision, alongside our focus on sustainability and climate change. By collaborating closely with our colleagues in Australia and New Zealand, we will continue to deliver value for our clients across Asia Pacific.”
