Key project to ensure the long-term safety and resilience of infrastructure that serves as the backbone of Singapore’s water security.
Aurecon has been appointed by the Public Utilities Board (PUB) to conduct slope stability assessments across Singapore’s water infrastructure network.
The 36-month project will evaluate slopes spanning over 300 kilometres along major open waterways, catchment land and reservoir dams. The extensive assessment aims to ensure the long-term safety and resilience of infrastructure that serves as the backbone of the nation’s water security.
Jean-Marc Girard, chief operations officer, Asia at Aurecon, said: “This project affirms the importance of proactive management in safeguarding Singapore’s water infrastructure. We are committed to partnering with PUB to identify potential risks and implement targeted strengthening measures for long-term resilience.”
Aurecon’s scope of work includes asset risk management, slope stability engineering, slope instrumentation and monitoring, site investigation and survey and geographic information systems (GIS) capabilities.
One of the key challenges is the sheer scale of inspection work, covering over 31 kilometres of slopes across 11 major catchments including Punggol, Changi, Kranji, Pandan and Geylang, three kilometres of PUB catchment land and 21 reservoir dams – all to be completed on a tight timeline while managing accessibility concerns in certain areas.
To address these challenges efficiently, Aurecon will deploy digital solutions including 360-degree cameras and GIS technology to systematically record findings, providing PUB with a sustainable system for future monitoring.
Khine Hnin Yi, technical director, geotechnical at Aurecon, said: “Singapore’s tropical climate and geology present specific challenges for slope stability. Our team led by lead geotechnical engineer, Faridansyah, will leverage advanced assessment techniques and technical expertise from local and regional teams to deliver practical solutions while minimising environmental impact.”
Aurecon said that the appointment reinforces the company’s position as a trusted partner in Singapore’s infrastructure sector, further strengthening its track record in geotechnical engineering and water infrastructure. The project also adds to Aurecon’s portfolio of life-threatening infrastructure work with PUB and other statutory boards including transport, buildings and environmental projects, supporting Singapore’s continued development as a sustainable and resilient city-state.
