Located in Wangfujing, this pedestrian street was invested in by Hongkong Land to form a high-end fashionable lifestyle commercial centre with over 150,000 sqm, including 40,000 sqm retail spaces and Mandarin Oriental Hotel equipped with 73 rooms.
Close to the World Cultural Heritage-Forbidden City in Beijing, this project was challenging and innovative. The 300-meter shopping mall and Mandarin Oriental Hotel are low in the west and high in the east, hidden from view in the Forbidden City, of which the stunning golden roofs make a spectacular landscape as seen from the hotel lounge and guest rooms.
Being a classical urban regeneration project, it creatively revitalises the declining Wangfujing Pedestrian Street. A new east-west commercial moving line, perpendicular to the pedestrian street, alters and extends the perspective of the commercial thoroughfare.
Wangfu Central (WFC) is a rising centre of Beijing retail, with well-placed stores and restaurants, serpentine galleries, and art installations such as Sun Cycle and Meadow.
